U.S. Gambling Act against Online Casinos is a Clear Violation of Civil Rights

Posted by wp 28 June, 2008

The house of congress is likely to pass their puritanical and patronizing Internet Gambling Bill as early as June. The bill was introduced by Rep Jim Leach in what can only be described as a self serving act of hypocrisy and a violation of Americans’ civil liberties.

The Internet Gambling Act is touted as an attempt to save the moral, financial and spiritual wellbeing of the American public; this would make the assumption that gambling is an evil act of degradation. Some may agree with that which is fine except; the bill excludes certain forms of on and offline gambling, so why is gambling ok so long as the proceeds are used for Political campaigns and lining politicians pockets?

American society as a whole is a society of gamblers, wasn’t the country founded on pioneers that came with nothing and took risks against the odds? Sports is a great American institution, betting on your team isn’t a vile act of evil, it’s part of the American way; yet now Americans are being told that they are not allowed to spend their money how they choose. They are told that if they money is not going into the government coffers then they are not at liberty to make their own choices.

The Internet gambling bills would mean that ISP’s are not allowed to show online casinos websites. Porn is fine, but not online casinos. An American citizen can enter sites that exploit women, many of whom are under age, sites that have no real regulation to protect children from entering. Online casinos however, are deemed immoral and will destroy family values whereas obviously porn is great for families!

The evil of gambling does not seem to extend to horse racing, is that logical? Is the money bet on horse racing not green? But if you want to place a bet on a football game you’ll be committing a crime. Of course online Poker is straight from the devil himself according to the puritanical lobbyists, unless of course you’re playing Poker in Vegas, then its ok, why? Because Vegas pays taxes to the U.S government, that’s why. Online casinos however, are based all over the world and although, but any international law, you are not committing a crime by visiting a site that is legal within its jurisdiction, Mr. Leach has decided that Americans are not capable of making their own decision or spending the money that they are capable of earning and capable of paying to the government in taxes, yes playing poker; surely no American is smart enough to decide if that’s something they should do.

Of course the lottery is not included in the internet gambling bill; however, playing keno is considered an atrocity. Bingo will be illegal, BINGO! For decades, little old ladies have met up once a week to place their numbers and shout bingo when the balls pop. Have you ever heard of an old lady selling drugs on the streets to support her bingo habit? Perhaps there’s group of terrorist grannies laundering money through and online bingo site. Of course there’s not, Bingo just doesn’t suit the needs of the corrupt politicians manipulating the freedom of Americans to satisfy their own agendas.

Americans must stand up against this violation, ever Americans that never have and never will gamble in online casinos. Where will it end? The American Government must understand that they work for the people and when the interests and the rights of the citizens are being compromised for political financial gain, it is time to say no. As Americans, you are capable of deciding who represents you in the government, so who are they to tell you what decision you can and can’t make regarding you own money? Today it’s online gambling, tomorrow who knows, perhaps they will decide what food you can eat, what clothes you can wear, is the America, the capital of the free world or Saudi Arabia? This is a democracy, stand up for your democratic right to decide.

Online casinos in other countries such as the UK are regulated and act as a beneficial form of recreation. The regulations stop people from getting out of control as there are upper spending limits. There are tight controls over fraud and money laundering and age verification software prevents children from entering online casinos. People with gambling addiction will find a way to satisfy their addiction, but instead of being on a responsible online casino with spending limits and online support and advice for problem gamblers, they will simply fall prey to organized crime where their addiction will be nurtured and encouraged.

Mr. Leach and his friends seem to have no shame and what they are proposing is wrong and illegal.
